- For 10-frame Langstroth honey supers
What it is
An assembled wooden top-board sized for 10-frame Langstroth honey supers, with a black absorbent pad on the upper surface. The black pad heats in direct sunlight and helps volatilize bee repellent (Honey-B-Gone or Bee-Quick) applied to the pad, driving bees down out of the super so the super can be removed without bees.
How it works in the harvest workflow
Apply the recommended dose of bee repellent to the black pad. Place the fume board on top of the honey super you want to harvest. Wait 2-5 minutes in warm sunny weather (longer in cool or shaded conditions). The repellent volatilizes, bees clear down out of the super into the box below, and you can lift the super off cleanly with no bees inside.
Why this beats other harvest methods
Smoke-and-brush harvesting is rough on the bees and slow. Bee escape boards work but need overnight setup. A fume board with a good repellent clears most supers in minutes — the difference between a one-day harvest and a multi-day project on a single-beekeeper operation.
Notes
Most effective above 70°F with direct sun on the dark pad — heat drives the volatilization. Pair with Honey-B-Gone (sold separately on this site) for the standard southern-summer workflow.
