What it is

A wooden top-board sized for 10-frame Langstroth hives, designed to hold a slab of solid sugar candy on top of the cluster. Assembled and painted (the "Select" Dadant grade). The candy board sits in place of the inner cover during winter; the bees access the candy through the central hole as a no-syrup emergency winter feed.

When to use it

When the hive is short on stored honey going into winter, or as an insurance feed in February-March before nectar flows start but after the cluster has consumed most of its winter stores. Solid candy is the preferred winter feed because it does not freeze or drip cold liquid onto the cluster the way syrup does.

How to use it

Pour candy (boiled sugar mixture) directly into the candy board frame, let it harden, and place the board over the cluster. The bees access the candy through the central hole. Replace or refill as needed.
