Telescoping Cover 10 Frame
Aluminum-clad telescoping outer cover. Full weather protection in all seasons. Fits standard 10-frame equipment.
- Aluminum cladding deflects rain and reflects summer heat
- Telescoping design overlaps the upper box for a weather-tight seal
- 10-frame Langstroth sizing
What it is
The telescoping outer cover is the weatherproof roof of the hive. It sits on top of the inner cover and extends down over the sides of the uppermost box, shedding rain away from the joints where water would otherwise pool.
Why Premier's version
Premier Bee Products is American-made in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and their telescoping covers ship with galvanized metal sheeting already nailed to the top — so rain, hail, and Arkansas sun don't soak into the wood. 10-frame size fits standard Langstroth equipment.
Sizing and installation
10-frame size is 21¾" × 16¼" external — covers a standard 10-frame hive body with ~¾" overhang on each side. Sits loose on top of the inner cover; the bees' weight and a brick on top in windy locations is all you need to hold it down.
Usage notes
Paint the exterior wood sides (not the metal top — that's already sealed) with a light-colored exterior latex. White reflects heat in summer. If you're in a very windy spot, strap the cover or use a heavier brick than you think — Arkansas can throw sustained 40 mph gusts during severe weather, and a loose cover is a dead colony.
