What it is
A bee escape board for 10-frame Langstroth hives — a wooden board with a one-way escape device that lets bees walk out of honey supers but not back in. Installed below a honey super 24–48 hours before harvest, it empties the super of bees without smoking or brushing.
When to use it
Honey harvest day. Install the escape board between the brood chamber and the honey supers a day or two before you plan to pull the frames. Bees gradually exit the supers down into the brood chamber for the night and can't get back up through the escape. Pull the supers in the morning with few bees to deal with.
Usage notes
The escape device (usually a triangular or Porter-style one-way door) needs to be clean — propolis buildup makes bees unwilling to pass through. A dirty escape board means bees still in the supers on harvest day.
Compatibility
10-frame Langstroth. Sits beneath honey supers, above the brood chamber. Remove after harvest and store flat.
