What it is
Unassembled medium wooden frame components — top bar, bottom bar, two side bars, and the nails — shipped flat. You assemble them yourself. Foundation is sold separately; pair these with Puracell medium foundation or any standard medium foundation you prefer.
Why the unassembled option
Unassembled frames ship more cheaply per frame and stack flat in the truck, which is why beekeepers running multiple yards buy them by the hundred. The assembly is straightforward: four nails or brads per frame, ~2 minutes of work each. A pneumatic brad nailer speeds it up substantially.
Why Premier
Premier Bee Products, American-made in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The wood is dimensional pine cut to the bee-space tolerances commercial apiaries rely on. Compatible with every standard 10-frame or 8-frame Langstroth medium body on the market.
Usage notes
Use wood glue in the joints before nailing for frames that won't twist over a decade of seasonal swelling. Pre-drill side-bar pilot holes if you're using thicker brads to prevent splitting. Paint is unnecessary on frame components — they live inside the hive, where bees propolize everything anyway.
