What it is
The inner cover is the wooden lid that sits directly on top of the uppermost box in your hive, beneath the telescoping outer cover. It creates a dead-air insulating gap, gives you a place to feed (through the notched hole), and lets you open the hive without tearing the bees' propolis seal on the outer cover.

Premier Bee Products is American-made in Sioux Falls, South Dakota — they manufacture frames, foundation, and hive bodies used by commercial apiaries across the country. The 10-frame inner cover is sized for standard 10-frame Langstroth equipment: 16¼" wide, fits flush on any standard hive body.
When and how to use it
The oval notch in the rim is the escape/feeding port. Face it up and over in warm weather for ventilation; face it down against the top bars in cold weather to reduce draft. The center hole accepts a Porter bee escape (for honey harvest) or a quart-jar feeder (for spring feeding).
Compatibility
Works with any 10-frame Langstroth hive — Premier woodenware, Dadant, other standard US manufacturers. Paint the top surface to extend life if your hive is sun-exposed; the bottom surface where the bees walk doesn't need paint.
