- Best in temperatures above 70°F with direct sun
What it is
A non-toxic, food-grade bee repellent based on natural almond extract, applied to the absorbent pad of a fume board. The fume board is set on top of a honey super; the smell drives bees down out of the super within a few minutes, leaving the super empty of bees and ready to harvest without shaking, brushing, or running a bee escape board overnight.
Why use it
Clearing supers with smoke and a bee brush is slow and rough on the colony. Bee escape boards work but require an overnight wait. Honey-B-Gone applied to a fume board clears most supers in 2-5 minutes on a warm sunny day — much faster harvest workflow, and easier on a single beekeeper working alone.
How to use it
Apply the recommended amount to the absorbent pad on the fume board (the 10-frame fume board with black top pad is sold separately on this site). Place the fume board on top of the honey super. Wait 2-5 minutes in warm sunny weather (longer if cool or overcast). Remove the now-empty super.
Notes
Most effective in temperatures above 70°F with direct sunlight on the fume board's dark pad — heat helps the repellent volatilize. In cool or shaded conditions, plan on a longer wait or use a different harvest method.
