Entrance Reducer 8 Frame
Wooden entrance reducer for 8-frame equipment. Limits entrance size to help small colonies defend against robbing and reduce drafts in cooler weather.
- Two opening sizes for 8-frame hives
- Fits standard 8-frame bottom boards
What it is
A wooden entrance reducer sized for 8-frame Langstroth bottom boards. Slides into the front entrance with a narrow notch for weak colonies and a wider notch for summer traffic.
When to use it
New nucs, packages, and any weak colony that can't defend its full entrance from robbers or wasps. Fall robbing season, where even strong colonies benefit from a narrower opening. Winter, to minimize drafts and keep mice out.
Usage notes
Pull the reducer once the colony is strong enough to hold its own entrance — leaving it on during a honey flow chokes forager traffic and hurts production. Save the reducer; you'll want it again in fall.
Compatibility
8-frame Langstroth bottom boards only. 10-frame bottom boards have a different width and need the 10-frame version.
