Entrance Reducer 10 Frame
Wooden entrance reducer with small and large openings for a 10-frame hive. Limits robbing and cold drafts.
- Two opening sizes — small for winter and new packages, large for warm season
- Fits standard 10-frame bottom boards
What it is
A wooden entrance reducer for 10-frame Langstroth bottom boards. Slides into the front entrance and narrows the opening — one narrower notch for weak colonies or winter, one wider notch for normal summer traffic.
When to use it
New packages and nucs that can't yet defend a full-width entrance — start with the narrow notch and move to the wider notch once the colony is strong. Weak colonies during fall robbing pressure. Winter to reduce drafts and keep mice out.
Usage notes
Remove entirely once the colony is strong enough to defend a full entrance — typically by mid-spring for packages installed in early spring. A reducer on a strong colony during a flow limits incoming forager traffic and hurts honey production.
Compatibility
10-frame Langstroth bottom boards. Most Premier Bee Products bottom boards ship with a reducer included — this is a replacement or spare.
