Propolis Trap 10 Frame
Flexible plastic grid placed under the inner cover. Bees fill slots with propolis. Freeze and flex to harvest.
- Bees treat the grid gaps as drafts and seal them with propolis — no work required
- Freeze the filled trap, then flex the plastic to pop propolis out in chunks
- Clean collection with no contamination from wood or wax
What it is
A propolis trap for 10-frame Langstroth hives — a slotted plastic or metal grid that bees fill with propolis in an effort to seal the gaps. Place it on top of the frames under the inner cover; when the slots are full, freeze the trap and flake off the propolis for harvest.
Why harvest propolis
Propolis has a retail market as a tincture ingredient and natural remedy. Beekeepers with reliable propolis production can generate meaningful supplemental income per colony per season; even for personal use, a tincture from your own colony is worth the small effort of running a trap.
Usage notes
Install the trap for 4–8 weeks during high propolis production (late spring through summer). When the slots are mostly filled, remove the trap and put it in a freezer for a few hours. The propolis gets brittle at low temperatures and flakes off cleanly when you flex the trap. Store harvested propolis in a freezer bag at room temperature.
Compatibility
10-frame Langstroth. Sits above the top hive body, under the inner cover. Clean the trap between harvests.
