Plastic 9 Frame Spacer
Plastic spacer for 10-frame boxes run with 9 frames. Encourages thicker, easier-to-uncap honey comb.
- Spaces 9 frames evenly in a 10-frame box
- Bees build thicker, more uniform honey comb that's easier to uncap cleanly
- Snaps onto box walls — stays in place during inspections
What it is
A plastic 9-frame spacer for 10-frame honey supers — same function as the stainless version, at a lower price point. Forces bees to space 9 frames evenly across a 10-frame box so they draw thicker comb on each frame.
Why 9 frames
In a honey super, 9 frames of space gives the bees incentive to draw each comb out further — more honey per frame, easier uncapping at harvest. Only do this in supers; brood boxes need the full 10 frames.
Plastic vs. stainless
Stainless steel is forever; plastic is good for years but eventually cracks if dropped or left in a hot truck. The plastic version works fine for backyard or sideliner use — if you're running a commercial-scale operation, stainless is the better long-term investment.
Usage notes
Lays flat on the top of the hive body's rim. Frames drop into the notches. Lift off before removing frames — trying to pull a frame through the spacer will crack it.
Compatibility
10-frame Langstroth supers only. Not for 8-frame equipment.
