Metal Bound 8 Frame Queen Excluder
Wire-grid metal-bound queen excluder sized for 8-frame equipment. Keeps the queen in the brood box while allowing workers to pass through to honey supers.
- Wire-grid design for good worker passage
- 8-frame sizing
What it is
A metal-bound queen excluder for 8-frame Langstroth hives. Mesh grid keeps the queen below in the brood chamber while letting workers pass up into the honey supers.
Why metal-bound
The metal binding around the perimeter keeps the wires from warping under stacked supers. Plastic excluders bend at the edges over years of heavy box-on-box pressure; metal-bound excluders outlast the hive bodies they live under. For long-term 8-frame operations, metal-bound is the right investment.
When to install
Right before the main honey flow, sitting between the top brood box and the first super. Pull it off after harvest — queen excluders aren't meant to be on the hive through winter.
Usage notes
A drawn-comb super directly above the excluder gets bees working faster than bare foundation. Bees sometimes hesitate at the mesh with only empty foundation above; drawn comb gives them an immediate reason to cross.
Compatibility
8-frame Langstroth. Not for 10-frame equipment.
