JZ BZ Top Bar Cell Protector
Top-bar style cell protector. Clips over queen cells on the top bar. 100-pack.
- 100-pack — enough for a full season of queen production
- Top-bar style clips directly onto frame top bars over capped cells
What it is
A top-bar queen cell protector from JZ's BZ's — a slotted plastic cage that clips onto the top bar of a frame and holds a ripe queen cell during the last few days before emergence. Protects the cell from the colony's own workers and from virgin queens in adjacent cells.
What it's for
The critical window in queen rearing is the 48–72 hours before emergence: virgin queens can chew into each other's cells if they're next to each other, and workers sometimes tear down cells that don't smell right. A cell protector puts a physical barrier around the cell so the virgin can emerge inside the protector, then be moved to a mating nuc or introduced to a queenless colony.
Compatibility
Fits standard JZ's BZ's wide-base cell cups. Top-bar design means it hangs from the top of the frame — contrasted with push-in protectors, which go directly into comb. Top-bar is useful when you're managing cells in a cell-builder frame or moving cells between colonies.
Usage notes
Install the protector 1–2 days before emergence, after the cell is fully capped but before the queen chews out. Leave it on through emergence; remove within 24 hours after emergence so the virgin isn't stuck inside for days before introduction.
