What it is
The standard hive tool from Apis Tactical — the basic pry-bar-plus-scraper tool every beekeeper uses during every hive inspection. One end is a flat blade for prying frames apart, the other end has a hooked lip for lifting frames out of a crowded box.
What makes it useful
The tool is balanced for one-hand use. The flat blade is the right thickness to slide between frames without crushing bees — too thin and it bends when you pry, too thick and it jams. The scraping edge is ground for cleaning propolis off frame tops and box rims without gouging the wood.
When to choose this vs. a heavy-duty tool
The standard tool is right for new beekeepers, single-hive operations, or backup use. Beekeepers running multiple hives or working with long-propolized equipment usually want the heavy-duty version, which has a longer blade and more leverage for stubborn boxes.
Usage notes
Paint the handle a bright color — hive tools vanish into the grass the moment you set one down. Many beekeepers wear them on a carabiner or a belt loop for exactly this reason. A drop of light oil on the metal after cleaning prevents rust if the tool lives in a damp garage.
